Elastin

Exposure of the skin to sun, wind, and other environmental and lifestyle factors leads to skin aging - loss of moisture, elasticity, skin tone and texture as the degradation of certain skin proteins takes place. Further, published medical studies show the ability of cells to repair the damage by synthesizing replacement elastin declines with age.

Developments in the field of molecular biology now make it possible to produce human tropoelastin in transgenic plants. To date, human tropoelastin has not been available as a cosmetic ingredient and human tissue is not used as a source of hydrolyzed elastin.

DermaPlus’ introductory cosmeceutical product, based on the human elastin precursor tropoelastin, is the first to address these issues of declining skin quality and the body’s inability to repair it, with its topical, plant-based and personalized solution.
